Job Description

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating highly complex systems within a Microsoft Azure cloud-hosting environment. This position will play a lead role in supporting mission-critical systems, with ownership of every aspect of the systems' life cycle. The principal systems engineer will work across disciplines to drive security, growth, stability, scalability, and delivery of key business objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and support solutions in cloud and virtualized computing environments with an understanding of hybrid cloud architectures
  • System Administrator and owner of all aspects of system availability of Packaged and Custom Developed applications that are highly available, scalable, and self-healing within Microsoft Azure
  • Design, build, upgrade, patch and decommission various Windows and Linux systems, features, and services, including but not limited to:
    • Active Directory
    • Azure Storage (Blob, Files, Disks)
    • App Services
    • BCDR (Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Recovery Vaults)
    • Networking (vNets, Subnets, Express Route)
    • Virtual Machines
  • Works with Security Engineers and Application Support Teams to deploy application fixes, security patches, and test (check for compatibility issues, conducts QA) complex systems
  • Define and deploy monitoring, metrics, logging, and alerting systems in Microsoft Azure and Datadog
  • Documents complex procedures and troubleshooting procedures related to systems/networks software and hardware
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to other IT Engineers and IT Administrators

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Advanced scripting experience in PowerShell is required to lead extensive automation build and maintenance activity.  Additional scripting languages, such as Python, are a plus
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure services: Compute and Network, Storage and CDN, Database, Analytics, Application Services, Deployment, and Management
  • Advanced experience in core Microsoft technologies, including Windows, Windows server administration, Active Directory, IIS, Identity and Access Management, DNS, SQL
  • Expert knowledge of Azure CLI PowerShell, ARM Templates, Azure Networking, Azure Virtual Networks, and Site-to-Site-VPN.
  • Knowledge of security policies, network security, data security, and security event management to adopt cloud security services
  • Experience with multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent applicable experience
  • Microsoft AZURE Certification in specialized areas is required
  • 7+ years of IT experience, at least 3+ in Windows Systems Engineering/Operations roles
  • Minimum (3) years of experience in the design and maintenance of Microsoft Azure cloud solutions
  • Minimum (3) years of experience providing IT administration and/or engineering services, managing Windows Servers and Services
